At the time, the area consisted of homes from some of the wealthiest families. The area became known as the Mexican War Streets because the streets were named after battles and generals of the Mexican-American War.

Don't miss over 30 craft and local breweries at the 5th Annual Millvale Brew Fest on August 13th at the Millvale Riverfront Park.

Craft beer drinkers will be in suds heaven at the fifth annual Millvale Brew Fest at the Millvale Riverfront Park on Saturday, August 13.

With over 30 craft and local breweries attending the fifth installment of the annual event, there will be a brew for every one that attends.

Brew Fest History

The first Millvale Brew Fest was held in 2007 with 120 drinkers enjoying beers from 25 breweries.

The idea behind it was to raise money for the Millvale MainStreet and Millvale Borough Development Corporation, a nonprofit that has been working to help the recovery from the devastating flooding that occurred when Hurricane Ivan swept through. Money raised from the Millvale Brewfest helps with developing housing and business projects.

In 2008, the organizers changed the format to include only craft and local breweries, and the response was incredible. More than 200 drinkers enjoyed 55 brews. The popularity of this event has blossomed every year and 2011’s version will not disappoint.

Milvalle Brew Fest Details

Like I mentioned in the opening, the Millvale Brew Fest is Saturday, August 13 at the Millvale Riverfront Park. Besides the tasty brews from over 30 breweries, there will be music, food and prizes.

You can attend Brew Fest by buying tickets in advance on the website for $30 (+$2 shipping and handling) while tickets will be $35 on the day of the event. If you are going to be the designated driver, you can purchase a food only ticket for $12 in advances on the website or $15 at the door. Click here to purchase tickets in advanced.

The festivities are split into two sessions. The First Session runs from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and the Second Session runs from 5:00-8:00 pm.

Stage AE is a breath of fresh air for the Pittsburgh music scene and provides an excellent concert experience.

Like many Pittsburghers, I have been attending concerts for years. For most of my life, that meant that either driving to Burgettstown for a show at Star Lake (It will also be Star Lake to me) or the Civic Arena for a concert.

Over the last few years, new concerts venues have sprouted up around the metro area of Pittsburgh. The Carnegie Library Music Hall, Consol Energy Center and Stage AE have increased the Pittsburgh music scene. Best of all, they have decreased the drive.

Last night, I saw O.A.R. at Stage AE – my first show at this venue.

Where is Stage AE

Located at 400 North Shore Drive and situated between Heinz Field and PNC Park (closer to Heinz Field), the beats that echo out of Stage AE provides a heartbeat to the North Shore.

Though the addition of this venue takes away valuable tailgating space, on a day with sweltering heat like yesterday, meeting friends at the Rivertowne to enjoying dinner and a few Old Wylie IPA’s was just as good.

The location of the Stage AE is perfect for either tailgaters or those choosing to pregame at the Rivertowne, the Tilted Kilt or Jerome Bettis’ Grille 36. After finishing our beers and paying our check, we were at the entrance and through security in 5-10 minutes.

Stage AE Seating

Stage EA is the best of both worlds and plays host to both indoor and outdoor shows.

The O.A.R. concert was an outdoor show, but you still could escape the heat from going to the inside bar – something that most people seemed not to know. Not only can you escape the heat, but also the long lines for a beer or other beverage.

Stage AE is like a miniature Star Lake without seats. The area in front of the stage is concrete and is big enough for many of the most fanatic fans. The lawn isn’t too steep and is reminiscent of Star Lake.

Overall, the setup of Stage AE is perfect, especially with the Sun setting behind Heinz Field. The recess lighting in the walkway probably goes unnoticed by most fans, but come in handy for stumbling out after the show.

Find out if any of your favorite bands are coming to Stage AE and enjoy a concert in the heart of the North Shore.
